Working Principle of PAC-LV as a Drilling Additive

PAC-LV (Low Viscosity Polyanionic Cellulose) is a key fluid loss control additive for water-based drilling fluids with the core advantages of low viscosity increment, wellbore stabilization, and efficient filtration control. With anionic molecular chains, it adsorbs clay particles in drilling fluid through electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding.

It forms a thin, compact, and impermeable filter cake on the wellbore wall to plug formation pores and micro-fractures, greatly reducing filtrate invasion and preventing formation collapse, diameter shrinkage and reservoir damage. Different from high-viscosity PAC-HV, PAC-LV features a low-viscosity modified molecular structure. It controls fluid loss efficiently without increasing drilling fluid viscosity and shear force, ensuring smooth fluid circulation and pumping efficiency. It is widely applicable to deep wells, high-salinity and extended-reach drilling with excellent salt and temperature resistance.
